One Health Record®’s mission is to electronically exchange health information between Alabama’s healthcare providers and as a result, improve the quality and efficiency of the healthcare received by Alabama’s citizens. To help facilitate this mission, MedConnect has joined forces with One Health Record to allow MediSYS EHR providers to connect seamlessly with Alabama One Health Record.
Bill Mixon, Executive Director, Alabama One Health Record® states, “Congratulations to MedConnect, the first Ambulatory Clinical EHR vendor to successfully connect to the Alabama One Health Record® HIE Network. First is always challenging and MedConnect met the challenge. We are particularly glad to see an Alabama company doing so well.”
Providers using MediSYS’ EHR MedConnect v2.3 will now have secure access to Alabama’s One Health Record to electronically exchange patient health information including current medications, problem diagnosis, lab results and allergies. “As Bill said, it can be challenging to be first, but our primary focus is on helping Alabama providers help their patients, so connecting to One Health Record was something we felt very strongly about delivering to providers as soon as possible.” explains Jimmy Chapman, President and CEO MedConnect.
About One Health Record®
One Health Record® wants to serve the citizens of the State of Alabama by promoting and providing the secure exchange of health records. We believe this has the potential to improve the health of the citizens of Alabama by:
- Improving health care quality, preventing medical errors
- Increasing the efficiency of health care
- Reducing unnecessary health care costs
- Increasing administrative efficiencies
- Improving population health and patient engagement
One Health Record® created the infrastructure for exchanging health information in Alabama through a grant awarded to Medicaid in 2009 by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). Under the guidance of the Health Information Exchange (HIE) Commission, Medicaid stood up a robust system to link provider’s and hospital’s electronic health records.
One Health Record® will continue to build upon the existing HIE and create a network of providers and hospitals within the state and provide the network to exchange health information with other states.
