Advancing Care Information: Tips ‘n’ Tricks

We created a list of a few tips on the Advancing Care Information (formerly Meaningful Use) performance category for 2017. Remember, the Advancing Care Information (ACI) category counts for 25% of your 2017 MIPS Performance score.

Tips ‘n’ Tricks:

  • Make sure you choose the right ACI measure set to report on. This will depend on which version your EHR software is certified; 2014 or 2015 editions.
  • If you report as a group in the ACI category, then you must report as a group for ALL MIPS categories including Quality and Improvement Activities.
  • The ACI reporting requirements are made up of two components: the Base Score and the Performance Score. You must report ALL BASE measures. If you fail to report all base measures you will receive zero points in the ACI category.
  • Base Score (50 pts) + Performance Score + Bonus Score = FINAL SCORE: To get the full 25% for the ACI category you will want to get a Final Score of 100 or more points.
  • The BASE score for 2017 Advancing Care Information transition measures are:
    • Security Risk Analysis (must report “yes” for credit)
    • e-Prescribing (submit at least a 1 in the numerator)
    • Provide Patient Access (submit at least a 1 in the numerator)
    • Health Information Exchange (submit at least a 1 in the numerator)
  • The PERFORMANCE measures score for 2017 Advancing Care Information transition measures are:
    • Provide Patient Access
    • Health Information Exchange
    • View, Document, or Transmit (VDT)
    • Patient Specific Education
    • Secure Messaging
    • Medication Reconciliation
    • Immunization Registry Reporting (report “yes” to earn full credit for this measure)
  • Note: Health Information Exchange and Provide Patient Access measures are in both the Base and Performance measure sets.
  • The BONUS score for the 2017 Advancing Care Information transition measures are:
    • 5%: Report to 1 or more of the following public health and clinical data registries: Syndromic Surveillance Reporting AND/OR Specialized Registry Reporting
    • 10%: Report certain IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES using CEHRT.
  • Must start a 90-day reporting period no later than October 2, 2017
