During the SARS-CoV-2 public health emergency, the DEA has reduces regulation and rules with regards to prescribing controlled substances via telemedicine visits.
Any DEA registered practitioner who practices in any area of the united states may prescribe controlled substances without having a face-to-face so long as they meet the following criteria:
- The prescription is issued for a legitimate medical purpose by a practitioner acting in the usual course of his/her professional practice.
- The telemedicine communication is conducted using an audio-visual, real-time, 2-way interactive communication system.
- The practitioner is acting in accordance with federal and state laws.
