2021 MIPS Performance Year Updates and Reminders

CMS reopened the MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) application for the 2021 MIPS performance year for groups, virtual groups, and Alternative Payment Model (APM) entities. (Because of the automatic EUC policy, you don’t need to submit an application for individual clinicians.) CMS Reopens the MIPS Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Application for the 2021 MIPS Performance Year in Response to COVID-19

CMS continues to offer flexibilities to provide relief to clinicians responding to the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency (PHE). We applied the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances (EUC) policy to all individual MIPS eligible clinicians for the 2021 performance period. CMS Approves Performance Period Suppression of the 2021 Performance Period for Quality Measure #111/CMS127v9: Pneumococcal Vaccination Status for Older Adults MIPS eCQM Collection Type

CMS determined that the burden for electronic health record (EHR) developers would be prohibitive to truncating the data for the performance period. The downstream impacts associated with the eCQM collection type’s submission parameters would present an immense challenge, potentially leading to the inability to meet CMS’s reporting deadline. BCBS of AL Telehealth and Remote Access Telemedicine Policy Available

Effective February 1, 2022, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is implementing the Telehealth and Remote Access Telemedicine policy. Telehealth and telemedicine are not used synonymously in this policy and have unique requirements and conditions. BCBS of AL encourages providers to review this policy and the Telehealth and Remote Access Telemedicine webpage on ProviderAccess for additional information.

HHS has extended the Public Health Emergency for another 90-days

The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the Public Health Emergency PHE extended another 90 days due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
