HHS extends COVID-19 Public Health Emergency another 90 Days

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra has renewed the public health emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, effective Oct. 18, 2021. After detailed review of clinical trials, the FDA advises that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is safe and effective in preventing serious illness caused by COVID-19, and is fully approved for ages 16 and older. The FDA amended the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) for both the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to allow for an additional dose in certain immunocompromised people.
