Mid-Week MACRA Minute – Upcoming deadlines you can’t miss!

Helping you put the MIPS pieces together each week!

Don’t miss out on these MIPS deadlines coming up in October and December!!

October 1 Deadline

If you are a Medicare clinician eligible to participate in the Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2017, but have never successfully attested to Meaningful Use in previous years, you can still avoid the -4% Meaningful Use penalty for 2018!

If you meet one of the 2 circumstances below, you have until October 1, 2017 to submit a hardship application to avoid the 2018 penalty:

  • The EP never participated in Meaningful Use and intends to participate in the advancing care information performance category of the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System in 2017.
  • The EP’s Certified EHR was decertified at any time during the performance period or 12 months prior and the EP made a good faith effort to obtain another certified EHR for the applicable reporting period.

REMINDER: If you haven’t already started MIPS, October 1st is the LAST starting day for the 90-day reporting period requirement. At a minimum, start Improvement Activities (90 days). Don’t risk a 4% penalty! Get started before October 1st to optimize your possibility of a higher incentive by reporting 90 days and participating in all 3 MIPS performance categories! Remember, you don’t need an EHR to participate in MIPS!

December 1 Deadline

CMS released two reports this week, the PQRS Feedback Reports and Quality and Resource Use Reports (QRURs) which give results for the PQRS and Value-Based Payment Modifier (VBPM) programs during the 2016 calendar year.

The PQRS Feedback Reports provide details about group and individual reporting results including any Medicare Part B payment penalties for 2018. The QRURs include information on both quality and cost assessments under the VBPM and whether the group will receive a bonus or penalty in 2018.

It is recommended you review these reports as soon as possible and if you feel that your evaluation or penalty was incorrect, you have until Dec. 1 to appeal by submitting an informal review request.

For more information on the 2016 PQRS Informal Review visit https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/PQRS/AnalysisAndPayment.html.
